FAQ

Q.

As a part of ABC / Disney, are you required to distribute your content on their websites?

A.

As a production studio, STAGE 9 seeks to find the best exhibition platform that will maximize awareness and audience appeal for each individual project. While Disney-owned properties (e.g. ABC.com, Disney.com, Movies.com, and dozens of others) are considered valuable partners in our distribution strategy, we are not exclusive to those platforms.

Q.

Does STAGE 9 create digital content for ABC television series like LOST?

A.

No. Our company focuses on creating original made-for-new media shows. Line extensions for primetime series like LOST and Grey's Anatomy are produced by ABC Studios and the ABC Network.

Q.

How much does it cost to create an original series?

A.

Programming that is made for new media has different economics than film or television; our projects are made for 4-6% of what it costs to produce one episode of a primetime TV drama. STAGE 9 maintains the highest quality level possible in writing, directing, casting, and overall production value, while still considering current market conditions for this early stage industry. Each STAGE 9 project has unique creative requirements that determine the exact budget parameters.

Q.

How long does it take to create a series, from start to finish?

A.

STAGE 9 focuses on delivering quality for the right price, not rushing to get something out the door. Depending upon the creative nature of each project, our process can take from 5 months to a year (from concept to script to final delivery). Elements that contribute to a longer development/production cycle include specific talent attached, complexity of storyline, numerous characters, locations, sets, visual effects, music, and so on. Additionally, since we try to be collaborative with our sponsors and distribution partners, the approval process will typically add time to the schedule.

Q.

How do you market & promote your series?

A.

STAGE 9 knows that building awareness and "buzz" for new media content is critical to success, both creatively and financially. Each production budget has an allocation for marketing and promotion activities. We will work in collaboration with our distribution partners to craft a customized marketing & promotions plan for each project.

Q.

Do you expect your series to migrate to television or film?

A.

Hollywood history has some great examples of short films and/or web phenomena that successfully migrated to other platforms. A recent example is The Simpsons. But as early as the 1930' s, serials like The Lone Ranger, were introduced and later became TV series. While our company does not develop concepts specifically for migration, our goal is to identify unique, compelling, and commercially viable projects targeted to become new media hits.
